On September 6, 1901, William McKinley the 25th President of the United States was assassinated. Theodore Roosevelt was then inaugurated. This impacted our nation because it was a huge deal that the president was shot and a new president was coming in. This impacts me because I know that when Roosevelt came in a made a lot of impactful changes that benefit us. This connects to present day because an assassination of the president will always be remembered.
The Ford Model T is a car created by Ford Motor Company from October 1, 1908, to May 26, 1927. This impacts our nation because it was the first car that everybody could use and it would soon start a revolution in the car industry. This impacts me because without this invention we might not have cars in the present. This impacts present day because like I said before, without the Model T we might not have cars today.
The Brownie camera was introduced in February 1900 and cost only $1. This impacted our nation because it was the first camera that almost everybody could afford and it was a big step in photography. This impacts me because I love photography and this helped create our every day cameras. This connects to present day because without this invention we might not have the cameras that we do today.
In America during the 1930's the Great Depression was happening. This greatly impacted our nation because it put a lot of people awful situations and most people lost everything. This impacts me as a person because knowing that this happened in the past means that it could happen again and that I could be apart of it. This connects to present day because like I said before this could very well likely happen again.
From 1933-1939 the persecution of jews was happening in Europe. This impacted our nation because lots of people tried to immigrate to America. This impacted me as a person because its horrible to think that if I was alive during this time that would have been my friends in that situation. This connects to present day because some people still think it's ok to treat others badly just from something that differs them from others.
On July 19, 1937, Amelia Earhart was declared lost at Sea, she was an inspiration to all. This impacted our nation because she was the first women to fly a plane and the first person to fly around the world. This impacts me because she is a strong and independent women is a role model to a lot of people including me. This connects to present day because everyone still remembers her and her courageous acts.
On March 6, 1912, the National Biscuit Company sold its first Oreo cookie to a Hoboken grocer. Now Oreos are celebrating their 100th birthday. This impacted our nation because it is now one of the best selling cookies and everybody knows of them. This impacted me because I love Oreos and I never that they were invented during this time period. This connects to present day because every day all over the world people eat Oreos.
After America drops 2 atomic bombs on them, Japan surrenders on Sep 02, 1945. This impacted our nation because it ended the war and all our suffering. This impacts me as a person because I don't think war should exist and the fact that the war ended is important to me.This connects to present day because Japan and America are now on good terms and Japanese people can freely live in America.
On August 18, 1920 women in all states were given the right to vote. This impacted all the women in our nation because they were now one step closer to having all the same rights as men. This impacts me because now when i'm older I can vote just like everybody else and if it weren't for this event I wouldn't be able to. This connects to present day because now women everywhere have the right to vote.
On September 14, 1814, Francis Scott Key wrote the lyrics to “The Star-Spangled Banner” after watching the British bombardment of Fort McHenry in Maryland during the War of 1812. But it was not until 1916 that it was officially passed as a law. This impacted our nation because it united everyone and it was something to represent our nation. This impacts me as a person because I'm American and the anthem is something that represents who I am. This event connects to present day because it is a part of our every-day lives as an American.
