It seems like we have to understand the Foundational Literacies before we can move on to the Competencies and Character Qualities. Our Connections classes help us with several different areas. In Peer Mediation we focus on Competencies and Character Qualities. While these skills can be taught in our general education classes, it is important to think about how we need to develop in these areas and reflect over how we worked in these areas. This image shows how students are supposed to learn the 21st Century Learning Skills. We focus on the Learning and Innovation Skills in Peer Mediation. Many of the skills are things that embedded in other subjects we learn in middle and high school; however, our Connections classes help us learn some of these skills directly.

The skills we focus on most in Peer Mediation are divided into four categories (the four Cs): - collaboration - creativity - critical thinking - communication Students need to develop these 21st Century Learning Skills to be successful in the real world.
