This source argues that Ed Sheeran isn’t a good singer, but some things that they stated in the article proves that the world thinks he is a really good singer. Quoting Brian Boyd, he said "Over on radio, they were falling over themselves to play him in heavy rotation. He broke all-known records for the most ever upfront (i.e pre-release) plays. His lead-off single was made Single of the Week on more big stations than you can count; he also got Album of the Week and a few “Hottest Record in the World” accolades." He is also getting extreme followers on nearly every source of social media, hitting 454 million views on his YouTube channel, getting 6.5 million likes on Facebook and 9.5 million likes on twitter, getting this extreme amount of likes means, he obviously has a lot of fans. From this text, it is stating that he isn’t a good singer, but at the same time they are proving themselves wrong, they have stated all of these good things about him and has nothing bad to say about him apart of his album isn’t very good but if it’s getting 454 million views, there is got to be something good about it. This relates to Glam Rock because, even though Brian Boyd was trying to argue that he isn’t a good musician, he stated everything that’s good about him and proved that Ed Sheeran is a good, popular musician. It relates because still in today’s society, celebrities are producing really good music and in the 70's they did too. The Glam Rock celebrities were known for the good musicians, and this proves that still to this day, good musicians are still in today’s society.
In this video, a crazy performance is being performed by pink singing ‘Just like fire’. In this performance, just like the performances in the 70s, it was extremely bright and very jaw dropping. Pink was wearing a black dress, with black pants and black leather sleeves that end just before her shoulders. At the start she was flying on a rope over the crowd with beaming lights shining. Throughout the performance the clock sets on fire and the lights get brighter, more the music gets louder and the dancers are on ropes up in the air dancing. At the end pink sits on an arrow and it lifts her up in the air just in front of the clock that’s in flames, the lights get even brighter and pink finishes off her song. The crazy performances were a massive part In the Glam Rock 70s era; they had massive performances to be remembered, for everyone to remember the musicians by their amazing concerts. This is still in today’s society, as my source is shows the crazy performances, are still to this day occurring. Just like Pinks performance, there are many other musicians, who also like to have extreme concerts and use beaming lights, in the 70's musicians like KISS, were remembered for their crazy looks and their crazy performances.
In source 2, is an image of Ruby Rose. Ruby rose has a short hair style that only just comes down past her right eye. She has a sleeve of tattoos on both arms, with random tattoos, such as flowers, animals, a girls face, a lady bug, TV characters and writing. She also has a tattoo on her neck of a heart beat. Having tattoos makes her look very masculine, her hair, shaved on both sides and has a lid, this brings the androgynous look into place. The Androgynous style was a massive part in the Glam rock era; David Bowie was one of the biggest celebrities that was very androgynous. The androgynous style links to today’s society because as seen in my source, Ruby Rose is a DJ and she is an example of a musician that looks androgynous.
In this image Katy Perry is wearing a bright, eye catching costume. Her costume is covered in glitter, sparkles and a range of different pastel, feminie colours. The material on the costume is reflective and has funky props all over it, such as ice creams, cupcakes, toffee apple and colourful candy jewellery. In the background is has props coloured in feminie pastel colours, props like, cupcakes as flowers, candy as tree trunks and ice cream on the floor. The costumes of the Glam Rock era were a huge part in the music genre. Musicians wore Glam costumes to be recognised as a band and to be individualised so they were different to other people. The Glam Rock costume and makeup style, links to current society because still to this day, celebrities have out there costumes and incredible makeup. The image I have chosen is a representation that the glam costumes are still worn to this day. Examples of costume and makeup from the glam rock era are celebrities like KISS and David Bowie.
