If someone shows kindness, caring, and a willingness to help others, they're showing compassion. This is a word for a very positive emotion that has to do with being thoughtful and decent. When you feel compassion for someone, you really want to help out.
Ego and Self-esteem are not the same. Having a big ego is a negative trait. Having high self-esteem is a positive trait. People with big ego are so blinded by their grandiose self-image that they cannot see the difference between the ego and their real self.

Historically, self-compassion has been seen as selfish or narcissistic. Experts are beginning to see that not only is self-compassion good for the individual, it is good for all of us.

It is almost as though your mind will not give up unless you give the mind up, in a sense. When I say 'give it up', I mean to give up who are you are in your mind -- you have to give up. Otherwise, you will speak different things but you will not change inside, you will not have melted into that sweetness that comes when you are really aware of the Truth. A person cannot change a person; only Grace and God can change you, but you have to be humble.
Some of the possible implications are that increasing self-compassion and reducing your ego, may be a method for reducing materialistic tendencies and increasing well-being. Methods to reduce fear of self-compassion and fear of compassion for others could also decrease materialism and serve to increase well-being.
