“A Brave New World” by Aldous Huxley and the article “The De-Christianization of America” published by The Grace Bible Church both tackle the issue of the dissipation of religion, specifically Christianity, in society. In A Brave New World, when speaking of how their new society has replaced religion, it is said that it gives “all of the advantages of Christianity… with none of [its] defects.”(54) When Huxley says this he of course means it ironically. What he is really saying is that in a world without Christianity, drugs, sex, and questionable morals run rampant. In The De-Christianization of American while speaking of the effects of a new society in which religion has been deemphasized, it reads, “The arts are increasingly decadent, portraying violence, pornography, and banality as high culture.” The theme between this quote and Huxley’s message run parallel. Both speak of how without Christianity as the backbone of society, our social and moral systems fall to pieces. These quotes aim to help people recognize the deterioration of their culture, as well as motivate them to return to traditional values.
