In the book, The Separate Peace, Finny and Gene's friend, Leper, is one of the characters that would relate to my theme because he is his own person. Leper is probably the most different character, he doesn't care what people think about him. Leper is a peaceful, quiet, contemplative boy, he also enjoys the outdoors and loves his snails. Many people at Devon make fun of him for some of those things, but Leper keeps his head high and doesn't care at all.
In the television show, Glee, they revolve around how everyone is different. Glee is a show where talented students can find strength, acceptance and their voice, and be who they want to be. Mr. Schuester is the teacher responsible for the kids in the glee club, he is also is learning how to accept his students for who they are and what they are capable to do. In this show they learn how to express themselves.
In the movie, Beauty and the Beast, Belle and the Beast go through accepting each other for who they other, even though they hate each other in the beginning. The beast doesn't understand how Belle can care for him because he is different and mean. Belle has been looking at him from the inside, she knows he has a big heart and doesn't judge him over being different .
Erin Gruwell tells her story about The Freedom Writers, which was turned into a movie. She tells us that in her diverse class, her students are all different. Many of her students have gone through so many things in life, that makes them the people who they are. Gruwell accepted each of her student just the way, they were. Her students also learned to accepted how she was and how she was trying to help them.
In the Movie, Divergent, the society is divided into factions: Abnegation, Amity,Candor, Dauntless and Erudite, which determine who you are going to be for the rest of your life. The main character Beatrice Prior was born into Abnegation, in the society when they turn a certain age, they have to decided their own faction. Beatrice has to make a choice; either to be like her parents or choose something that she feel fits with who she is. She is scared that her parents are going to hate her for making that choice, that they may not accept.
In the book ,The Circle, Mercer is one of Mae's friend and also her ex-boyfriend. Mercer is not tech savvy at all, he dislikes technology deeply. In The Circle, everyone and everything is involved with technology. Mae doesn't accept the fact that, that's how Mercer is, yet here, Mae is pressuring him to become something he is not. What I also like about Mercer is that he doesn't care about people judging him. At the end people trying to get him to be someone different than who he really is, drive him to his death.
