The video on Magic Johnson announcing his retirement on November 7, 1991, was a very eye opening message for people living in the United States, not only because he is a basketball legend but because back then it was such a lack of education about the virus itself. His coming out to be HIV positive truly proves that anyone can get the disease and that it is what ultimately people were learning about HIV. The message was spread around and people became more informed and not too alert but alert, because lots of people back then looked at contractors of the HIV virus differently. If Magic Johnson could get it, anybody could get it. Johnson highlights in this video his retirement, and that his wife was not contracted with the virus. He notes that he will miss his team and playing for them. From a society’s scope someone with the virus would feel detached.
On the legal scope, laws have been put in effect that aren’t treating those with the virus under equal protection under the law. More laws need to be put in effect to help make the victims of the virus feel more protected. The people of this country should feel safe, they should feel like they belong.
This video consists of the cut and dry history and evolution of HIV/AIDS. The virus has been contracted many different ways in the past and the number of people who have it in the world today has increased substantially. This is because with more people, comes more problems.
