Protesters burned tyres and blocked four main highways in Albania on Thursday to demand that authorities scrap new toll fees on the main road linking the impoverished Balkan country with Kosovo.
Recently in Albania, tolls have been placed on the four major highways leading to Albania. Hundreds of people blocked the four main highways, including roads in Albania leading to Kosovo, protesting the new highway tolls. Protesters were demanding that they ¨scrap¨ the new toll booths that are collecting 3.75 euros for motorcycles, 6.75 for cars, and up to 27.50 for trucks. People from Kosovo are saying that ¨the tolls need to be lowered in price, due to the high travel from Kosovo to Albania because of the high tourism, Albania receives due to the coast line.
Albanian has an Muslim majority started by the centuries of the Ottoman rule. Twenty percent of Albania population is in fact Christian, divided by the Orthodox and Catholic denominations. In WWII, Albania had become a Stalinist state, and remained in isolation, until its transition in 1990. Many Albanians left the country in search of work, leaving the money they send home as an important source of revenue.

Albanians suffered centuries of invasions, and they were finally conqured by Ottoman Turks (Islam), they cut off Albania from western civilization for more than four centuries.
