Summary and Reflection: This post is an opinion article that discusses how college students have become intolerant due to the creation of safe spaces. It points out the irony of the whole creation by showing that college students don’t want any kind of ridicule or hardships, but they will insult and bombard anyone who is against their way of thinking. I am no conservative, but the invention of the safe space is something that we as Americans must all fight against. We are teaching the next generation that they can hide behind closed doors and block out the hate, instead of building a resilience and tolerance to pain. I agree that these civil rights issues are a problem, but we should be taught to embrace criticism, so that way we can overcome it. Instead, we are taught that we are special and if anyone questions or opposes that, we automatically believe they are a bigot. How are we supposed to handle anything in the workplace if we are taught to never overcome fear and hatred. I know that if we all got some thicker skin, that we could easily improve and become better citizens over time. MLA Citation: "Safe Spaces On College Campuses Are Creating Intolerant Students." Summary and Reflection: This article by the new york times tells us that people should leave their safe space because they create an unnecessary conflict. I agree with this point of view as well. It discusses how people are becoming too sensitive to any form of hardships, and this is preventing them from developing a resilience, which is highly desired in the workforce. College students especially need to calm down, I appreciate their tenacity and ability to express their problems, but they should focus their energy on their schoolwork and what makes them happy, rather than what “triggers” them. The fact that any campus features a trigger warning is absolutely ridiculous. I support all who have a real struggle, this is just stupid. This article shows both sides of the conflict when concerning the topic of safe spaces. On one end, there is a 43 year old white, Christian male who had never faced discrimination in his life, vouching for safe spaces. However, another interviewee was asked about the same topic and they were outraged that the safe space even exists. MLA Citation: "An Unusual Way Schools Can Create ‘safe Spaces’ for Learning."
