One of the biggest parts of my life right now, besides school and family is my amazing boyfriend, Ricky. Everyday he makes me laugh, smile, and love life. Some of our favorite things to do together include; doing puzzles with 100+ pieces even though we both suck at puzzles, watching movie after movie for hours on end, binge-watching TV shows, singing songs from musicals together, and going on coffee dates to people watch. He's pretty darn amazing.
Although my music taste includes a wide range including Simon and Garfunkel, Imogen Heap, Harry styles, Post Malone, and J Cole, my all time favorite music artists are the Lumineers. Weather I'm stressed or nervous or just seeking a little relaxation, a little dose of "Angela" or "Cleopatra", or "sleep on the floor" is a quick pick me up. The Lumineers are my go-to for pre-audition or performances to calm my nerves, or when I'm feeling a little down and need something to cheer me up.
Despite my love and passion for the fine arts, I don't plan on pursuing a career in it. My heart lies elsewhere when it comes to dream jobs- Occupational and Physio therapy assistant- a two year program at Macewan covers both and allows me to work in a field where I can help people physically rehabilitate and carry out exercises and programs to improve physical health of those who need it.
I'm a real sucker for Netflix original series- in fact, I have a real problem; I binge watch my life away on Netflix. A prime example of this is Stranger Things- which is currently my favorite show. I absolutely love 80's style and music, so that was a factor of the show that instantly drew me in. What made me stay? The incredible acting, an intriguing story line and lovable characters, the Sci-fi mixed with Drama and Mystery and... shall I go on? Point is I love me some Stranger Things.
Musical theater is one of my biggest passions. It combines the three things I love the most in the performing arts spectrum: Singing, dancing, and acting. Cats, Phantom of the opera, Newsies, Dear Evan Hansen, Les Misrebles, She Loves Me, even Shrek the Musical... the list goes on. But my all time favorite Musical is 110% West Side Story. Watching it live on stage was an absolutely life-changing experience and was so magical, but the 1961 Movie was just as phenomenal. Watching a bunch of teenage boys pirouetting through the streets and snapping their fingers threatening at rivaling gangs- name a better way to spend your time. Dream role? Anita. She's strong, witty, sarcastic, and sexy- definitely the best kind of role to play.
I'm no fashionista, and my wardrobe is far from trending, but I have a mild obsession with shoes. I circulate through the same 2 or 3 pairs of shoes, but my collection is ever growing, always staying in the confines of my closet. I hardly wear my extensive collection, but I couldn't bear to part with all my fancy high heels, colorful sneakers and glitzy flats.
Though I'm no coffee addict, I can never turn up a cup of French vanilla on a cold day to energize me before musical theater rehearsals or dance classes. My life can get pretty chaotic at times, so coffee is my go-to to slow down and regenerate.
Iskra Lawrence (the sexy babe pictured above) is my fitness role model. She avoids diets and eats what she wants, and instead focuses her efforts on specifically working out. She is strong and confident, and doesn't listen to criticisms of people who think she needs to be thinner. I know it's a long-shot but one day I hope to be able to find body-confidence and work-out routines that work and can get me results like Iskra. She is one of my biggest role models.
One of my favorite people to spend time with is my incredible cousin, Kenzie (short of Mackenzie). She's a super-nerd and book worm, but also super social, funny, smart, absolutely gorgeous, and lovable, and getting to spend long-weekends with her at her house in Airdrie is always a treat. Her and I love to create music videos and comedy sketches and we've co-written an epic fantasy novel with plans forming for a sequel. Our favorite things to do together include: Making videos, writing stories, watching our favorite episodes of "Batman the Brave and the Bold", staying up late talking, going to "Peter's Drive-in" for milkshakes (as pictured above) and going to the theaters to watch the newest Marvel movies together.
I have a lot of hopes and dreams for my future, a big one being children. I've always loved children, and as the second-oldest of nine children, having a big family has always been a priority. As much as I admire my mom for raising nine of us, my dream number of children is four. Some may still find that to be a large family, but for me it's actually rather small. Either way, four sounds like the perfect number to me.
This goddess is my lady crush- the one and only Gal Gadot. You may recognize her from her role as Wonder Woman, where her sexiness, confidence, and strength helps to further enhance the character. Her smile is gorgeous, her laugh is beautiful, her body is exceptional, her hair is phenomenal... like holy crap can you name a more perfect human being? No, I don't think you can. (PS. She's way better than Meghan Markle)
Marriage is a big goal of mine, and although I'm not going to rush into anything too soon after high school, it's a guilty pleasure of mine to imagine my dream wedding- outdoors, with lots of fairy lights and lanterns on trees and white roses and so on and so forth. The possibilities are endless.
I'm the kind of person who dreams big, even if I know it's not gonna be easy or even possible at times. One of these big dreams- a house on an acreage. A house I design and build, with a dance studio in the basement and a swing in the kitchen. No matter who tells me it's an unrealistic goal, I'll never give up my dream and stop working to build a house and a home where I can live my life, do the things I love, and raise my future children in a place where they're allowed to be kids.
When asked if I'm a cat or a dog person, I could deliver my answer without a breath of hesitation. I'm definitely a dog person (nothing against cats, if I wasn't allergic to them I'm sure I would've grown quite fond of them). If I could, I'd own all the dogs. But that's a little out of the question, so instead I count down the days to when I have a big house with a big yard and can afford to house a dog... or two... or three. The adorable dog above is one of my favorite breeds of dog- a Siberian husky. Some of my other favorites include Border Collies, Australian Shepherds, and Alaskan Malamutes.
I was born and raised here in Edmonton, born at the royal Alexandra and lived in Mill woods for most of my life, but my blood and heart lies elsewhere, in British Columbia. My parents grew up there, and visiting there is always amazing. Snow capped mountains, crystal clear lakes and thick vegetation everywhere. Living on the coast of BC, where my Grandma and aunt and cousins live is yet another dream of mine. I can't wait to move to somewhere where it doesn't snow 9 months of the year, where I can take trips down to the ocean and sell blackberries at festivals and markets, and where I can go on hikes and swim in lakes. Needless to say, BC has always been a place that stayed in my heart.
One of my all time favorite activities is stargazing. Having a cloudless indigo sky spread in front of me, speckled with stars and streaked with meteors on a warm summer night, is one of the most magical places to be. It's easy to forget such magical scenes exist when you live in a city like Edmonton, ridden with light pollution. But when my family goes on vacations to the little town on the coast of BC, it's always treat to get away from the crowds and bustle to see the trillions upon trillions of stars dancing across the night sky.
I absolutely love exploring the music and culture and fashion that defined each of the eras of the past- it's a hobby of mine that fascinates and excites me; and through these investigations I've found a love for 50's fashion trends right alongside my realized love of 50's diners. West side story was one of those things that only made me further love the 50's, as it's set in that time period. Sometimes I wish I could just show up to school in a pastel fit and flare dress, but I feel like that doesn't quite fit with popular style these days.... unfortunately.
Rain is one of the most comforting things for me, and in my opinion Edmonton just doesn't have enough of it. I like heavy rain and light rain and cold rain and warm rain. I love the smell of rain and the sound of rain and the feel of rain is it flicks down on my face and soaks my clothes. I can't remember the last time I used an umbrella in rain- usually I just go out there without and stand under the downpour. Added bonus? If there's a little thunder and lighting.
Something that's rather new to my broad range of interests and hobbies is tap dance. When I left Victoria School to come to page, it meant giving up the 20 hours a week of free in-school dance classes provided by the school. Seeing as there was no ballet or contemporary classes for teenagers of my age and skill level in Edmonton, I settled for an alternate: Tap dance. I was a little worried I wouldn't enjoy it much, but I've come to love tap dance quite a lot. It looks extremely easy but looks are deceiving- it's actually very physically and mentally challenging, and the results are so cool. Its slowly becoming a lost art, but I'll never stop loving tap dance.
I attended Victoria School of the Arts last year, where I was able to take classes to learn my favorite genre of dance- contemporary- which this video is an example of. Though I never had the chance to get to such an advanced level, this video and ones like this are the kinds of things that motivate me to do everything I can to stay on the path of dance so that one day I might be able to dance like these two talented people. This is also the work of one of my favorite choreographers, Talia Favia. She's done a lot of amazing work in the dance industry, and is only 26 years old. That's pretty incredible.
I know, I know, there's a lot about dance on here, but here I go again. At Victoria I was doing beginner Ballet, Jazz, and General Dance 15, and contemporary 25. Had I stayed I would've started choreographing, and gone on to finish contemporary 35. I'm in the picture above, if you can spot me, doing a workshop in my contemporary 25 class. Dance runs through my veins. I feel like its one of those things I couldn't live without. Although I'm not good at it, its the passion that counts, and I'm endlessly passionate about it. Sure, I have many less opportunities to delve into the dace world now that I'm at Page, but that doesn't stop from continuously doing strength and flexibility training, and going to as many dance shows as I can, so that I still keep a foot in the dance water.
Photography is another one of my passions. I've always felt at home with a camera in my hands crouched in the grass to get the perfect shot of a bunny or a leaf, or one of my many siblings running through a field. Photography, like dance, is one of those things that brings the closest thing to magic into my life. Its ability to capture the beauty found in a single moment and freeze it; its ability to change ones original perspective by changing lens' or altering the depth of field or shutter-speed. Film and photography will always be a big part of my life, and something that I will strive to learn more about and get better at.
