on February, 19 1942 the president at the time Franklin D, Roosevelt signed executive order 9066 and authorized the internment of any person of Japanese ancestry living next to shore or next to naval bases, air bases, or anything military related and moved them inland to 10 internment camps usually in unused soil. 2/3 of these people were American citizens and one third was immigrants.

Akio Ujihara was a 40 year old engineer when he was deported to a displacement camp. he proceeded to make four more painting as a way to cope with his situation. he made one in Manzanar witch is the one above. two in topaz and one in another displaced persons camp witch there were ten of in total. Akio was later freed and his current whereabouts or if he has passed are unknown.
"Japanese Relocation" is a short film produced by the U.S. Office of War. in this film in talks about how the Japanese people "Wholeheartedly" participated in their own "Humane" relocation. it's needless to say that in this video there are many exaggerations such as when it says they gave them healthy food. when in fact all the Japanese people had to eat were beans and pork. every day.
