Trump wants to ban transgender service members from the military. There is no evidence to support that you should ban transgenders from the military. Retired military generals agree that it could affect the younge military soldiers abilityns to fight. The white house has not given any specific guidleines for transgender service people helenene cooper says. Some contrevertry occured like when allowing gays in the military. Trump says allowing transgenders in the military could cause major medical costs. Trump said “cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail.”
Rick perry says he defiantly agrees with trump about banning transgenders from the military. He says "The idea that the American people need to be paying for these types of operations to change your sex is not very wise from a standpoint of economics." When trump sent out tweets about transgender ban and that started a lot of chaos. In the tweet trump pretty much says they need to focus on victory and not have to worry about the medical costs. Rick talked to reporters about this topic because he was an air force cargo pilot for 5 years. He agrees with trump on making sure the military is strong and not having to be focused on high medical payments. A rand corp study showed that covering transgenders in healthcare would be between 2.4 and 8.4 million. People who disagree with trump says the military spends 84 million a year for erectile dysfunction.
Eric Fanning is against banning transgenders from the military. He says most decisions in the military are made carefully and for a long time but this was random. Eric was apart of this study that looked at keeping transgenders in the military and how much it would cost. It does not cost that much more to keep them. If we take them out we lost money that we had spent on training them, but now we don't have as many soldiers. So the army, navy and airforce found that it would not cause many cost or risks. Eric also says he interviewed some transgender soldiers and they said they were afraid to be open about being a transgender. Eric says that transgenders have been in the military for a while and it's not really been a problem. What would cause problems and disrupt the military would be taking them out of there ready units. He thinks all americans should see themselves protecting this country.
Trump announced that transgenders will not be allowed to work in the military and current transgender soldiers are left very surprised and confused. Some transgender soldiers had come out about being transgender because of old policies. They said there were no different rules between regular soldiers and transgender soldiers. Kibby a transgender was trying to major in english and history at the naval academy. Now because of the ban it is not positive that he will get to continue his education."The entire future I had planned for myself was crumbling around me," said Kibby. "To be told that you are less than, that you are not worthy, is a terrible feeling." Some people also say the ban is unconstitutional and causes problems with readiness of the national guard. Another transgender soldier who has been serving in the military for 11 years is block stone."These men and women served admirably and honorably under active duty," Block said. "Under Trump's ban, they feel like they're being pushed back into the shadows again." Transgenders are being pushed away when the soldiers with medical disabilities get to stay. People against the ban are trying in every way to change the president's mind.
Maura Healey is the massachusetts attorney general. She is the leader 15 other attorneys who disagree with trumps transgender military ban. The group believes "Our military should be open to every brave American who volunteers to serve,” and "nothing about being transgender inhibits a person's ability to serve in the military or otherwise contribute to society." They also say that banning transgenders from the military is unconstitutional and hurts all transgenders, because they are being treated differently. They think trumps ban is not logical or responsible and it’s discriminating against transgenders. Also it would cost $960 million to ban transgender soldiers. Trump's tweet was something like this "will not accept or allow transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the military.” This is what started Maura Healey’s group.
Trump announced that transgender soldiers would not be allowed in the military. On twitter he said “Transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the U.S. Military. The military cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail.” A rand report showed that it would be about 0.04-0.13 percent increase for health care in the military, if transgenders served. Philip Bump says This same kind of conflict came up when gay americans fought for the right to be in the military. Also with woman and african americans in the military. President Harry Truman allowed african americans into the military, when people didn't agree with him. Lister Hill said that this would affect the military when they needed to be focused on being ready to go and strong.“When your life hangs on the line, you don’t want anything distracting. … Mistakes and inattention or distractions cost Marines’ lives.” This is what some people think is having transgenders in the military could be distracting with all the different opinions about them.
