Two guest speakers came to our classroom and shared their family's stories about their time during the holocaust with us. As a response, we wrote thank you letters to the guest speakers.
We were put into different groups and each group had to do a presentation slideshow about one specific aspect of the holocaust. Our group's focus was early persecution.
We did trailer videos about our books that we read in different books. At the end of our books, we created a book trailer which is like the book version of a movie trailer. My group read the Book Thief and we made a video about it that showed small exerpts from the book.
In this weekly writing focus, we talked about arranged marriages and we shared our personal views and opinions about it as well. This assignment was because of the play we read, " A Midsummer Night's Dream" , where one of the characters father's tried to arrange a marriage for her.
For this project we wrote an argumentative essay debating whether or not Johnny Cade was guilty in his case in the Outsiders book. I defended him and argued he was innocent.
We did the vignette projects after we read 'The House on Mango Street". I wrote about personal experiences and memories in these vignettes.
