The source talks about the aspect of work which is the topic i am working on. Since it shows a comparison between work life of singaporeans between and during the japanese occupation, it shows clearly how the japanese occupation affected the people in Singapore im terms of the aspect of work. Hence, this source shows that the japanese occupation caused many deaths of the people. The people were forced into hard labour by the japanese in order to get their food. Since they had to work to get the food, if their work did not satisfy the japanese, they would not be given their food and thus lead to starvation and malnutrition, or even death.

Explain how the source is relevant to the aspect of life that you are focussing on. What does it show about the situation in pre-Jap Occupation and/or during Japanese Occupation

The source talked about many things related to food sources during japanese occupation. But, i would like to focus on the part where it states "Nowadays there is a great scarcity of food. Rice can't be bought without permits. Only now we realise what war is." This shows that people were able to sell food, but the problem is that others could not buy the food no matter how much money they have.

This source talked about many parts related to food source during the japanese occupation. But, i would like to focus on the black market. This source shows that people visit the black market amd participate in the activities. This is because the food rations given out by the japanese were not enough for people to fill their hunger, especially when they have to consider for their family members. Even though the black market sells things at high prices, the people still bought their things as they have no choice. It was the only way for them and their loved ones to survive the hunger during that 3 long years of japanese occupation.
