This video shows the effects that the time period, when this book takes place, had a negative effect on America. The aftermath of World War II was the beginning of an era defined by the decline of the old great powers and the rise of two superpowers: the Soviet Union (USSR) and the United States of America (USA), creating a bipolar world. The two became competitors on the world stage and engaged in the "Cold War", because it never turned into an open war between the two powers but was focused on espionage, political subversion and proxy wars. Some people think that we are starting to go into another cold war with our new president. They say "history repeats itself." This is what many think is haappening right now with Trump raising tensions between the united states and russia. The position advocated is to stop having these conflicts build and to create peace between the two. The president is allowed to deploy troops into another country but congress holds the power to declare war. This is in the Constitution and stops the President from making a rash decision and creating what could be another Cold War.
This video shows how harsh things were during this time period. People were being persecuted for thier beliefs and something that today, is a right that everyone has in the United States. This video shows the issue of human rights and how it has changed overtime. This was a concentration camp and what they did to those innocent people is considered genocide. I am advocating against the cruelty of people for expressing thier beliefs. What they did was wrong and unjust. These people had no way to defend themselves or stop the persecution. In Article I of the UN Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide: “The Contracting Parties confirm that genocide, whether committed in time of peace or in time of war, is a crime under international law which they undertake to prevent and punish.” This is a very important law to help stop the maltreatment of a certain group of people and stop the violation of human rights.
This is the speech that is given by a German General to his men after surrendering to the Americans. This shows the way the soldiers were respected and how they really were fighting for thier country and risking thier lives to save something bigger then them. This has evolved a lot over time. Now, normally a general will not show mercy on his subordinates and he will try to be very hard on them. This shows how during this time, everything was heightened, even emotions, and the generals were grateful for the men they got to help them. I like how personal the general is in this clip. He is advocating for peace and security, democracy, and human rights. He is proud of his men no matter what happened and how they had to surrender. He is more focused on them individually and how they fought selflessly. The government has gotten quite a bit different. Now they are huge with many troops and little to no time to give a heartfelt speech like this one.
This video is the Easy Company attacking the town of Carentan during the invasion of France, 1944. This video shows the conditions of the soldiers and what they were going through. Thier friends were dying right before thier eyes. They did not know what was going to happen next and had to be prepared for everything. It was a suprise attack and they lost a majority of thier men to this battle. This is the social aspect of war and how it effects the men. It is crazy to think that this happened in real life. The position advocated is human rights and peace and security. They are fighting and dying for thier country and to keep everyone in America safe. They are trying to make peace even if it means killing people along the way. Laws have not changed a lot on the rules of war. Everything is pretty much the same in the way that it works and how everything runs. It is very unpredictable and it is hard to see what is coming.
