As long as I can remember, I've struggled with my weight. I always felt like the chubby one in the family. Even as young as 5 or 6, I perceived myself as being more over weight than my friends. I think it's human nature to compare ourselves to those around us; how do we look? The same? Different? Better? Worse? We are desperate to fit in...belong and be accepted. More importantly, to accept yourself! As I got older, I tried a variety of different things to lose weight. As a teenager, I essentially went without eating much all day. After college, I joined a quick weight loss clinic type program and a gym. After getting married and having baby #1, I joined Weight Watchers. At some point, I even did the Slimfast shake thing! Long story short, throughout my life, I would try a weight loss program, lose about 20 lbs only to have it creep back on again. I would fail to hardwire those behaviors of eating properly and exercising daily to maintain my weight and stay off the yo-yo weight cycle. I know my personal struggle was managing my time; married with three busy kids, working full-time as a nurse and keeping active with church and other community activities. When did I have time to even consider another attempt at losing weight....again?! Four years ago, I was fast approaching my 50th birthday and yup...I was failing miserably at the concept of being my "best self" by the time I reached my 50th birthday (it was supposed to have happened at my 40th birthday!) I came across a post on Facebook for a Beachbody fitness and nutrition program. I responded to the post driven by a desire to get my act straight once and for all! This time it worked! For four years, I have kept the weight off and can now proudly say I'm in the best shape of my whole dang life! It's my mission to reach out to as many "Susans" as I can and share what I did and continue to do to create a healthy, sustainable lifestyle. I've been there...I've done that.
