In this Article it talks about two bill being proposed in Texas, being the "bathroom bill" and bill permitting publicly funded agencies to reject people wanting to adopt. The "bathroom bill" proposes that public schools should provided a single- occupancy bathroom for students that are transgender. Critics say that these measures threaten the civil right and safety of trans youth. While, Republicans view the bill as protecting the children safety. In the adoption bill legislature approved a bill permitting adoption agencies to reject their services to people based on religious objections. Republican bill sponsor Charles Perry says "this bill doesn't prohibit particular groups from adopting." while, critics say that people could be rejected for being of another religion, gay, or a single parent. Both of the bills can be viewed as being connected because can be viewed as giving conservatives religious freedom but also discriminating of people.
In this political cartoon it can be viewed as mocking of the religious conservative people. We see a pastor saying that his religious freedom is being oppressed by LGBT civil rights, like same sex marriage now being legal, even though the one that is being harmed would be the LGBT community by conservatives making laws to oppress the LGBT community. The point of view here in the picture would be of the LGBT community or people that support of the LGBT civil rights because its meant to look at as if they are the ones that are actually being harmed by religious conservatives and their religious freedom.
In this article its about a court case hat went up to the supreme court named Masterpiece Cakeshop V. Colorado Civil Rights Commission. What had happen was that now that same sex marriage was legal was two men wen to to the cake shop to get their weeding cake. They were denied access from the owner told that making a cake for them would be against his religious beliefs. The case went all the way up to the supreme court but the case keeps being delayed and pushed back. People believe that the reason for the case to e pushed back is because the supreme court doesn't want to deal with such a serious matter with only 8 members in the supreme court and having a 4-4 deadlock. They say the court case keeps being pushed back because they want the new member of the court to be caught up and fully understand the case because its a really significant issue.
In this article the a man named Timothy Anderson has been selling heroin to people but because it was part of his own religion which was non-profit group. Since he did say it was part of his religion they prosecute him criminally because it would be violation of religious freedom. However the government had exempted Native Americans for peyote a scheduled 1 drug. The court later ruled the case and said it wasn't becasue it was heroinbut mainly beasue there was no evidence that Anderson was actually seeing heroin as part of his religion. In this article there is Anderson's point of view saying that its fine to use drugs as part of religion and even the writer giving him credit to recognize that it possible for others to do this like the government exempting Native Americans. This connects to freedom of religion because there are religions were they do use drugs bu what would be the limit and why are some allowed while other aren't?
In this political cartoon its showing the point of view of the conservative side and how they feel. This is related to the first amendment because in the image it shows two flower shops owned by Christians and two customers that most conservatives are against because in the first one the person can be inferred to be of Muslim religion. While in the second one is of LGBT community. For the first one most Christians are against Muslims because they are practicing another religion. As for the second one, Christians are usually against the LGBT community because Christians believe in that in a relationship it should only be a man and a woman. In the talk bubble they tell the Christians that they have to believe in their beliefs or they can lose everything. Making both communities seem as they are out to only harm them. This relates to religious freedom because many Christians feel that they aren't practicing their religion freely because they have to give their services to others that don't have the same beliefs as them.
