Kensington Market’s old Zimmerman’s Fairland grocery is turning into a six series immersive art maze with collaborations from visual and musical artists.
When Daphne Vasquez decided to stop by FreshCo.'s Parkdale location to get some shopping done, she went in with her dog, as she claims she had done countless times before. This time, recently, was different. Vasquez, who has an undisclosed disability which she says requires the use of a service dog, was approached by a store manager, who demanded to know why she had brought the animal, Elvis, into the grocer near the corner of Queen and Gladstone. According to Vasquez, she had been in the store with Elvis many times before, and had been approached at times by FreshCo. employees inquiring about her pet. Each time, they appeared to be satisfied when she pointed out the attachment on Elvis’ leash, indicating the eight-year-old chihuahua's status as a service dog.
In the coming weeks, the Ultramar on St. Peters Road in Charlottetown will be rebranding to an Irving fuel station and Circle K convenience store.
