The Book Gallery in Carleton Place is closing after 27 years, and it is time to clear the shelves. Beginning immediately, the store is having a massive sale, with all books 50 per cent off. Moreover, The Book Gallery will no longer accept donations or do trades.
Speaking with the Canadian Gazette on Feb. 2, general manager Steve Hamilton noted The Book Gallery simply could not survive the popularity of e-readers or e-commerce.
“You cannot fight technology,” he said.
There was a time when the store did really well; however, over the last five or six years sales have steadily declined.
