An independently owned Conception Bay North grocery chain received a national honour last week at an industry conference in Toronto.

Powell's Supermarket took home the Arnold Rands Heritage Award, handed out as part of the Canadian Independent Grocer of the Year Awards. The Canadian Federation of Independent Grocers (CFIG) event was held Oct. 24, the last day of the Grocery Innovations Canada 2017 conference. The award is presented annually to a multi-generational store owned and operated by the same family in the same community for at least 35 years.
