After a 70-year run, the Oxford Book Shop evokes many memories for Londoners. "It's the deep roots in London that make it still something that people want to see go on," says Hillary Thomas, whose in-laws, Eileen and Bob Pittam, first opened the store in 1948.
Cadillac Fairview , Armadale Co. Limited, and Torontair Limited announced that the Toronto Buttonville Municipal Airport will continue operations until at least spring 2023. In 2011, CF and Armadale, owners of the lands at Buttonville Airport, submitted an application for land use changes to the site to permit a world-class employment district and vibrant, mixed-use lifestyle destination (including the possibility of a substantial shopping mall).
Dundas' University Plaza is not officially on anyone's radar for residential redevelopment, despite a new focus from both plaza owner RioCan and the City of Hamilton on mixed-use density growth on commercial sites. RioCan has already identified 43 mixed-use redevelopment opportunities on properties it owns across Canada. Eight are already, or about to be, under construction. Hamilton city council passed a resolution last month directing economic development staff to consult operators and owners of commercial properties — like RioCan — about "new, expanded potential for residential and mixed use intensification within many existing commercial areas, such as shopping malls, to explore their interest in mixed-use development and to identify if any further barriers remain to supporting this type of development."
