Obama wanted military action and he wanted it fast against ISIS. He felt that we needed to take immediate military action against them, but some of the Congress people felt something different. There were many people in Congress that wanted to act right away, but many that didn’t. That is one way of your agenda taking longer than you want because of the checks and balances within our government.
Trump tried to push his agenda of wanted the temporary travel ban for all Muslim people. This was suddenly halted by a judge in the surpreme court. This is Trumps first real experience with the government stopping one of his bills that he wants to pass. This may make him realize that he will not be able to pass whatever bill he wants, whenever he wants to do it. Another example of the judicial branch keeping the executive branch in check.
Congress was able to veto Obama’s bill on 9/11. This bill aloud families to sue the Saudi Arabian government for their family losses and that would allow them to get money. 2/3 majority voted to veto this bill because they felt it wasn’t fair to the government in Saudi Arabia. The fault shouldn’t completely fall on their government. This is the judicial branch helping to keep the executive branch in check.
Trump can appoint federal judges. This keeps the judicial branch in check by the executive branch. Although, trump can help push his agenda by appointing judges that would agree with some of the things he is trying to push.
