The death of Cleopatra is a complete mystery and romance. After retreating to Egypt, Marc returned to the battlefield hoping to defeat Octavian. But he soon realized that he was going to get taken by Octavian. After being told false news that Cleopatra had died he killed himself. When Cleopatra had learn that Marc was dead, she became very depressed. Cleopatra was determined that she would not be paraded through the streets o Rome before being killed in a triumph. She began to test poisons on condemned prisoners. She decided that the fast poisons were to painful and the least painful were to slow. So she went to animal/snake venom ad decided on the bite of an asp. While Octavian held her captive along with her children, she came up with a plan Marc was already dead and she couldn’t go on. She left a note requesting that she be buried with Marc and she dismissed all but her two closet servants. Charmion and Eiras, and the three of them together committed suicided. Everyone says that they committed suicided with a cobra. But a cobra releases all of its venom in one bite and so the snake could not have killed all three women. Cobras are also large snakes and its is hard to imagine three cobras being smuggled into a basket into her quarters, without drawing any attention. With the death of Cleopatra, Octavian took control of Egypt and turned it into the Roman Empire. Her death brought an end to the Ptolemy dynasty that had lasted three-hundred years, and the end to the Egyptian Empire. Cleopatra Vll Thea Philopator was the very last Pharaoh of Egypt.
In 44 BC, Julius Caesar was assassinated and so Cleopatra returned to Egypt. There were three leaders to emerge from Rome after Caesars death, and one of them was Marc Antony. Cleopatra and Marc met and fell in love in 41 BC. They also formed a military alliance against another one of Rome’s leaders, Octavian. But there was another problem, Octavian was the legal heir to Julius Caesar. Cleopatra wanted Caesarion to be Julius’s heir and eventually become the ruler of Rome. She hoped that Marc could help her make that happen. Cleopatra and Marc combined their armies in order to fight the Rome and Octavian. On September 2 31 BC. Two armies met at the Battle of Actium, off the western coast of Greece. Marc and Cleopatra were defeated by Octavian and had to retreat to Egypt.
After taking back power. Cleopatra and Julius fell in love. When Cleopatra was 21 and Julius was 52 they had a child named Caesarion. Cleopatra visited Rome and stayed at one of Caesar’s country houses. But despite being in love with Caesar she had to think of her country first, she wanted Egypt to remain independent of Rome. So she built up the Egyptian economy, she established trade with many Arab nations, and many other things. She was a very popular ruler among the people of Egypt both because she embraced the Egyptian culture, and because the country was very successful during her rule.
Cleopatra was born in 69 BC and died in 68 BC. Cleopatra became the queen of Egypt when she was eighteen. Before that she was the princesses of Egypt, her mother and father were the king and queen of Egypt. She was her dads favorite child, and learned a lot about Egypt from him. Her younger brother Ptolemy Xlll became the co-leader and he was ten years old. In 51 BC Ptolemy Xlll and Cleopatra got married when she was eighteen to her younger brother who was ten. Since he was to young to run things Cleopatra took over. But when he got older he wanted more power and eventually forced her out of the palace and took over Pharaoh. In 48 BC Cleopatra snuck back into the palace hidden inside a rolled up carpet. She met a Julius Caesar and convinced him to help her wine back the throne. Caesar defeated Ptolemy Xlll’s army at the Battle of the Nile, Ptolemy Xlll drowned in the Nile river trying to escape.
