Newsela is an Instructional Content Platform that supercharges reading engagement and learning in every subject.
All SouthTech Academy students and teachers have access to this resource. Teachers can assign articles by subject, reading skill, reading level, and language. Newsela articles are a great way for all content area teachers to differentiate instruction and infuse reading/writing into their curriculum.
Mr. Pontz (History) shared the Stanford History Education Group site. The Reading Like a Historian curriculum engages students in historical inquiry. Lessons revolve around a central historical question and feature a set of primary documents designed for groups of students with a range of reading skills.
Mr. Knight (English) shared AllSides. This resource helps students see issues and political news with news bias revealed. Non-partisan, crowd-sourced technology shows all sides so students can decide.
Mr. Brown (Automotive Technology) shared an article that any content area teacher can use with students. Our PLC read the article and created a shared document with critical thinking questions that reflect our content areas (Brown- Automotive Technology, Deschenes- Math, Franco- English, Knight- English, Mendenhall- English, and Pontz- History).
