The Civil Rights movement fought against segregated schools which brought attention to the courts. This caused them to outlaw school segregation because it was inherently unequal. The Little Rock Nine fought against this oppression by being the first students to be integrated into Little Rock High School.
“You fasten all the triggers For the others to fire Then you set back and watch When the death count gets higher You hide in your mansion' As young people's blood Flows out of their bodies And is buried in the mud” Bob Dylan is speaking out against his government saying how the people who make all of the decisions don’t have to live with the consequences or face any backlash from them. This is democracy done right because Bob Dylan is pointing out the flaws in the government and trying to bring awareness in order to make change.
FDR helped his citizens by creating job opportunities after the stock market crash which helped the economy stabilize. He also provided low-income housing, soup kitchens, social security plans, and more. The government was working for the well-being of its people and was there to help them when they needed them most.
America as well as the rest of the world all came together to fight against fascism. We put our differences aside in order to keep democracy in place. In the U.S, everyone contributed to the war efforts. Women took over factory jobs while their husbands were gone, citizens donated goods such as rubber and nylons, factories were devoted to producing items for the war, and war bonds were available to help support the war. Also, the government implemented the ration of food, gas, and clothing.
In Washington's Farewell Address, he warned the people to question our government and unite as one to make change. The Pentagon Papers was one of the first times that civilians expressed distrust of their government after Daniel Ellsberg released classified documents regarding military strategies during the vietnam war. He believed that citizens have a right to know what is happening in the government which is a fundamental right of the people in a democratic society.
In this instance the supreme court stood up for it’s people. They declared that interracial marriages were not wrong and restricting them was unconstitutional, granting the right to marry who they wanted regardless of their race. After a long and tedious court case, the government worked to make sure that the people of the U.S got the rights they deserved.
Gay pride is representative of democracy done right. After bringing awareness to the issue, the U.S population decided as a whole to eliminate laws discriminating against people based on their sexuality. By protesting the government, the legalization of gay marriage was finally on the ballot for the public to vote on.
