Nelson Mandela, born July 18, 1918, was an activist just like Ghandi and MLK. He joined the African National Congress in 1942. Mandela went to prison in 1962 for poltical offenses . He got out in 1989, spending 27 years in prison. In 1993 mandela and the South African president were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for their efforts to dismantle the country's apartheid system. In 1994 he became the South African president until 1999. He died in on December 5, 2013.
King was heavily influenced by Gandhi. For example, he got his non violent ways from Gandhi. He studied Gandhi so he could leran his civi disobedient ways. He inspired MLK to even be a civil rights activist.
Mohandas Gandhi fought Indian freedom from British rule. In 1919, Gandhi launched an organized campaign of passive resistance in response to Parliament’s passage of the Rowlatt Acts. The acts allowed certain political cases to be tried without juries and permitted internment of suspects without trial. Gandhi mainly wanted India to have economic freedom. Mohandus also wanted his followers not to use violence.
