Jamila Woods' song VRY BLK is about many things. You may have many different takes. In the beginning of the story, Jamila speaks Police Brutality. She asks if she would become a chalk line if she says that she can't breathe. This is a conspicuous reference to Eric Garner. In the second verse Woods turns on politicians. She says that they just want to be famous but that they don't care about what really happened. The chorus supports unity and black people defending their brothers. She thinks the police are doing more harm than good and that politicians don't care about the danger that black "brothers" are in.
