Pictorial Source

1) What is the source all about? Give a description of the source.
The source is about one's grandmother telling stories about the period of Japanese occupation and Sook Ching, together with some pictures. The Japanese will get people to follow them saying that they are going for work, so people is desperate to get a job in order to get food, so they followed the Japanese. However, they were brought to the beaches and carried out Sook Ching, many died.
2) Explain how the source is relevant to the aspect of emotional and psychological. What does it show about the situation during the Japanese occupation.
The source tells that people were living under fear and anger. When the people were killed, the Japanese treat it like a game, and have no hard feelings at all, so people feel very angry, and of course, very scared that the next one to get killed will be them. Though they feel unfair, they have no choice and they cannot seek help from anyone.

1) What is the source about? Give a description of the source.
The source talks about how different people feel about going for work, specifically to build up the Thai railway. Some were very willing to join, some were reluctant, some were worried and hope that they would not get chosen to send for work. The interviewee himself wanted to work, but the Japanese find him too small-sized and therefore got rejected.
2) Explain how the source is relevant to the aspect of emotional and psychological. What does it show about the situation during Japanese occupation.
The source is relevant since it tells us about how different people feel about working. Those who feel reluctant is because of their family attachment, those who feel happy, is because they thought their life will get better and more exciting, and for those who feel scared and worried is because they heard that the life is intolerable and tough, and some even died. Even if you really don't want to work, you have no choice because they have to listen to the Japanese.

The Sook Ching

1) What is the source about? Give a description of the source.
The source is about a person's personal experience during the Japanese occupation. His brother and father got caught by the Japanese. His father managed to escape, however, his brother got killed. If people disobey the Japanese, they will be killed so people will be very scared and do everything meticulously so that they do not offend the Japanese.
2) Explain how the source is relevant to the aspect of emotional and psychological. What does it show about the situation during the Japanese occupation.
This source tells me that if one got caught by the Japanese and brought for Sook Ching, not only he himself will be scared, his family members will also be worried for him and at the same time, also worry for their own safety. Some get unfair treatment, for example, not getting food to eat, so another fear for them is not getting enough food or necessary items.

1) What is the source all about? Give a description of the source.
The source mainly talk about the fear of the people in their life, and how people will feel less scared and worried. People will often be worried and fear that the Japanese will bring them away for Sook Ching. However, if they get employed by the Japanese, their burden of worry will be lightened.
2) Explain how the source is relevant to the aspect of emotional and psychological. What does it show about the situation during Japanese occupation.
The oral recording tells me that during the Japanese occupation, people are very afraid of the Japanese, because they might just grab you and carry out Sook Ching and they often hear others saying who has gone and disappeared, so they lived in constant fear. This source also tells me that people can be more reassured if they got a job from the Japanese. That is because if they got carried away by the Japanese, their boss can come and explain and bring you back.
