Q1) What is the source all about? Give a description of the source.
A1) This source is about a survivor of the Japanese Occupation who shares her experiences of the Kempetai during the Japanese Occupation. She shared that she was extremely scared of the Kempeitai who were trying to find girls and harm them that she had to dress as a boy to avoid being found out and harmed by them. She also shared about the cruelty of the Kempeitai who killed people in public to spread fear among the others.
Q2) Explain how the source is relevant to the aspect of life that you are focusing on. What does it show about the situation in pre-Jap Occupation and/or during Japanese Occupation?
A2) This source helps me to understand the feelings and thoughts of the people and how fearful and intimidated they were of the Kempeitai during the Japanese Occupation. The source tells me that the people were mostly feeling very afraid of being caught or harmed by the Kempeitai and they were worried that the Kempeitai would be offended by them.

A1) This source is the write up of a student, Kathy Tan Shih Yen, who conducted an interview with Mr Ng Ah Sai who experienced the Japanese Occupation. The source talks about the unfortunate things that had happened during the Japanese Occupation as well as his feelings towards the Japanese.
Q2) Explain how the source is relevant to the aspect of life that you are focusing on. What does it show about the situation in pre-Jap Occupation and/or during Japanese Occupation?
A2) This source tells me how afraid most Chinese were of the Japanese and how much they hated the Japanese even after the Japanese Occupation. This sources helps me to understand more about how the Japanese treated the people cruelly which led to them still feeling a sense of resentment to the Japanese even after the Japanese left Singapore. This source also talks about the bad things that the Japanese did like beating the people up when they did not bow at them which made everybody feel intimidated. Not only were the people scared of the Japanese, but they also resented the Japanese for their cruelty towards the people during the Japanese Occupation. Till now, the resentment for the Japanese stays as bad memories of them stays in people’s minds.

A1) This source is a transcript of an oral interview with KHAN, Ahmad who experienced the Japanese Occupation. This source talks about how he felt when he was working for the Japanese during the Japanese Occupation and also he’s experiences with the Kempeitai.
Q2) Explain how the source is relevant to the aspect of life that you are focusing on. What does it show about the situation in pre-Jap Occupation and/or during Japanese Occupation?
A2) This source helps me to understand that most of the non-Japanese who were working for the Japanese were not loyal towards the Japanese. Very scared but wanted to oppose the Japanese, they collected information that would be useful in opposing the Japanese secretly and gave false anti-Japanese information to the Japanese. KHAN, Ahmad also included his thoughts and feelings of the Kempeitai. This source tells me about the fear that people had towards the Japanese and also the determination that most of the people had, wanting resist to the Japanese. However, they also know that their lives would be in danger if they resist to the Japanese, thus, they secretly collected useful information to resist the Japanese.

A1) This source shows an oil painting of the operation Sook Ching by Koeh Sia Yong which shows innocent men being caught by the Japanese to verify if they are against the Japanese and their reactions to it. They looked shocked and worried.
Q2) Explain how the source is relevant to the aspect of life that you are focusing on. What does it show about the situation in pre-Jap Occupation and/or during Japanese Occupation?
A2) This source suggests that the Chinese people who were caught were feeling extremely afraid and worried about what the Japanese would do to them based on their reactions in the painting. The reactions showed some of their feelings and emotions and their uncertainty of what would happen to them. The source is useful in showing that the innocent people were very uncertain about their destinies and was very scared and worried of what the Japanese would do to them as the Japanese were holding swords and guns.
