This video speaks about how "Society doesn't correlate disability with being attractive... but we CAN be stylish, gorgeous, stunning, and FABULOUS." For those with disability, what do you think people see you as someone with a disability? This is a very strong message being porrayed through three minutes. The people talking in the video have some sort of disability and speak about prejudice when people see them. The prejudice that people who are differently abled aren't attractive dehumanizes them and that preconceived idea leads to lack of cofidence within amazing human beings. The prejudice that differently abled people are not attractive will lead to serious issues in the future including mental health, and for what reason people make up false preconceived ideas?? This is because they feel like they are trapped in a small invisible square where no one can see them when near people similar in this video, because they can't stand someone being more attractive or whatever other reasons there are that they feel to make a false perception for all differently abled people. This relates to the Christopher in book The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nightime, as Christopher feels like their is a prejudice already formed about him and is a possible reason why he doesn't have friends at school.
In this video a professor at the University of San Francisco has developed an algorithm that could change lives and lead to better outcomes for children living with autism. Dr. William Bosl figured out you can see abnormal patterns in brain activity from an age-old source -- EEG sensors -- that capture wavelengths. The research also highlights how autism can be detected just a few months after birth. If this works this can allow families to start to get help for their children at a younger age and make it easier for them and their children. With this, the children will have an easier time socializing and more. This relates to Christopher the protagonist in the novel The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nightime because within the novel it mentions, how Christopher's mother felt like she was being pushed away from her son as she couldn't be so patient as she needed with her son. If this discovery had occurred earlier maybe Christopher's mother would have been able to get him more help at a younger age and then he would be easier to talk to and take care of.
This video is about a teenager, Dustin who is diagnosed with autism and developmental delays. In this video, he expresses how he hopes people will take the time to have a conversation with him about lightning and chainsaws. This is an insightful view on how some people who we treat differently only because of diagnosis was given to them when they were young affects them. He shows that he is a very kind and friendly when you actually go to speak to him. I believe videos like this are important as it displays how we can make people with a minor or major disability ecstatic, by just having a conversation or making them feel part of the world instead of not paying attention to them. This relates to Christopher in the novel The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nightime as Christopher likes to talk especially about trains. This is similar to this video as the Dustin likes to have conversations with people about specific topics such as lightning and chainsaws, and Christopher likes to have conversations about trains.
Dylan is a 19 yr old boy with Autism. This is his explanation to a family friend what it means to have autism to him. In this video, he explains why he is (considered) autistic and what he thinks about it. He later explains that he pretends not to be autistic because people who are friends with him do not wish to know him after they find out he has autism. The lady later says "I like you" and he responds asking why. She later tells Dylan something which I strongly agree with, "I like when people are who they are and don't pretend to be something else. And we can infer if she was going to say something else to Dylan she would have added 'that's the reason I really like you'. This is similar to Christopher in the novel The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nightime as Christopher likes to be and act all grown up but in some areas cannot achieve this because of autism as some things he can't do on his own. However, in this video, Dylan tries to be grown up and do as much as possible by himself as he also shares the same interests.
The Good Doctor is a television series that revolves around a teenager with autism but is a savant when it comes to the subject medicine. Within the television series the Character Shaun Murphy works as a surgeon and is seen consistently helping people survive from traumatic accidents that occur in front of him. I'm sure many people would think to themselves that because someone has autism they believe that people with this condition do not have the ability to be a surgeon or any other occupation that is a matter of life and death. I certainly did not have the same opinion, but this television series has enlightened that anyone can do what other people can and don't discriminate or hate them if they try. Saun Murphy is similar to Christopher as they were both diagnosed with Autism and have a special ability, Christopher with his maths and Shaun with science (medicine).
This is a poem written by a woman who is suffering from the disability, Tourette's syndrome. This is a poem portrays the women's experiences with her Tourette's which has caused her problems in the past. Within the extract written by she writes about her friend which refers to her Tourette's just wants to be heard, and as a result, she suffers from the body actions that she cannot control.
In this factual talk, geneticist Wendy Chung shares what we know about autism spectrum disorder — for example, that autism has multiple, perhaps interlocking, causes. Looking beyond the worry and concern that can surround a diagnosis, Wendy Chung and her team look at what we've learned through studies, treatments and careful listening. In this talk she explains that to people that autism is not caused by and injections taken as a person in the occupation of medicine, investigated and confirmed was true. In fact she proved that investigation wrong and was fraud resulting in the person losing their medical lisence. She later explains that possible reason for having a higher chance of developing autism is the age of the father at the time of conception. She teaches us that autism isn't unordinary, in fact in these days one in 88 people is diagnosed with autism and we shouldn't act differently around them as it is very common. This is similar to the novel The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nightime as Christopher is diagnosed with autism which as proven in this video is common. We can then begin to ask why his mother decided to leave him, as one of the few reasons was she couldn't be as patient as she needed for Christopher. Through the information Wendy Chung highlighted Christophers mother should be ashamed as autism appears in one in 88 people, and common reasons for children having autism is what the mother does with pregnant.
This is really amazing. This video clip teaches us more about people with magical abilities either gained from birth or acquired later in life. Most often the people with these unbelievable abilities have autism. This shows us that just because people may have autism doesn't mean they dont have a purpose in life or have the ability to do amazing things. I have never thought that people who have any type of disability doesn't have a purpose in life, but rather it has reminded me that they take everything about them in stride and truly are the ones who will succeed in life. They will use their abilities to either solve the biggest problems in life or what they experience to help anyone who has a similar case. This is comparable to the novel The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nightime as Christopher has a gift for math, just like savants have a certain gift that is not comparable to anyone else.
