In the book “Fahrenheit 451” by Ray Bradbury and in the real world as shown in the article “The Real Reason Americans Don’t Care About the Costs of War” by Stephanie Savell both show the public’s disconnection from the fears of war in the society. In the article Savell states that there is a “lack of connection between the American public and the wars being fought in our names in distant lands.” this shows that the United States public has lost interests in the wars that are outside of the country because the public is able to block out the news from those countries. The consequence of the disinterest is that the US public has about wars will cause fighting to continue with no interest from the US public causing the government to make all of the decisions, ultimately leading to larger government control and less/no media coverage. In “Fahrenheit 451” the government had taken so much control and hidden the outside world to the point where the country was in a war so large that Mildred and the rest of the city was bombed without knowing it was happening. As said by Guy, “Once the bomb release was yanked, it was over” and that the public “said nothing of the bomb”. The veil of secrecy by the government was used to prevent citizens knowledge of anything happening and dehumanized them by telling false truths and a lack of interest in affairs such as war. The lies of the government has created a false sense of a perfect society where there is no thought of attack from enemies, when in reality the “perfect” world is not so pure and gets bombed like in the book. Life today and in the future like in “Fahrenheit 451”, the censoring and disinterest from the public causes the government to gain more power and able to hide things from the public leading to a society where everything is false and the outside world is banished.
