Economy plays a great role for africa because "they were intended as a market for the goods manufactured in the European “home” country." In the west french encouraged africa to grow crops, plants etc because french wanted to sell the goods they produce.

In the late 19th century a lot of reoccuring events happened one being european imperalism. They had problems with themselves as states "Europe had undergone major changes that affected their beliefs about themselves." This lead to europeans travaling to africa and creating it as their own nation. Europeans wanted Africa and it's people civilazation as them. Which the Africans did not like at all.
