(YouTube Video) The story of the peppered moth's rapid change from light to dark became the "textbook example" of natural selection in the real world. This demonstarted a clear genetic change, based off of the different survival and reproduction in foods. However, they did not have enough information to prove the camouflage of the moths. They couldn't just assume that camouflage was the reason for the success of the moth. Scientists had to investigate more thorughly about how the moths were black, and when they were on black backgrounds, they were camouflaged. The original pale spotted moth was replaced by this darker form, which was the result of the Industrial Revolution. Even though people thought that the whole peppered moth story was completed and all known to all, it was never actually known what the gene that caused all this, really was. Then later, they have found that the study of rapid adaptation and not that much knowledge of the specific mutation that controlled the difference between the black color, and the speckled form.
(Article) This article depicts how humans really are still evolving, even though it may not seem so. Evolution between humans happens within the human genomes in our body. The genomes have changed over centuries and decades even, and with the help of studying our genomes, it led scientists to track evolutionary shifts in allele frequencies over a short amount of time. But, most scientists like to put their focus on new mutations that occur within humans. Once there is a new mutation, it can be passed on to the offspring, creating a whole new population. The article also states that sets of gene variations with "late-onset menstruation" was more common with women living longer. It also suggests that it might help delay death. Based on the article, scientists are still trying to develop their knowledge on how humans are still evolving, but they do have a general idea. It's all based on our genes and how in just the very last generation, it can have an effect on the gene of some sort.
(YouTube Video) The video not only explains how lizards survive, but it also explains the importance of evolution. The video takes place in "White Sands" and that's where they look and study the lizards evolving. The reason for going to White Sands is because it is a hot bed, and here you can see how the lizards adapt to the hot environment there. The animals that colonized, or at least tried to, had to go through an incredible amount of change in order to survive in such a unique place. Tons of animals had evolved through a lot of different adaptations, in order to survive. The most noticable adaptation the lizards have taken is their color. All the lizards that have adapted better to the environment have turned incredibly light in color. These lizards have a better chance of survival than the darker ones because their predators are looking out for food just like they are, so they need to be camoflaged so that they are able to survive. The process of evolution is very important to understand because of the large number of species facing extinction. If the species can adapt quickly, then they will be able to make it, because the world is changing rapidly, unfortunatly, and we need to know whether animals are able to adapt to these environmental changes.
