Here are the state standards for Family and Consumer Science. Aligning standards with each course currently taught at Cedar Falls would be a first step. Determining what each standard specifically means for student learning would be an unpacking step. Then assessments could be created and rubrics written to clearly communicate the knowledge and skills students need to be proficient.
This school has implemented Standard based grading and the Family Consumer Science department has created this website. It is student friendly so it may not have all of the behind the scenes info needed for teachers.
