Famine is a very great and general lack of food. Famines can be caused by natural disasters, drought, overpopulation, etc. Famines can cause starvation, which is the leading factor of death. Without any food, the human body won’t have enough energy, so the body will just get weaker and weaker till that person gets sick, or even die. Famines can happen to any country around the world. It can especially happen in poor countries, where there is no food. Millions of people die because of famines. There are some famous famines that I will be talking about.
This piece is from the Vietnamese Famine of 1945. The famine lasted from 1944-1945. The famine was caused by droughts and floods destroying northern crops. The famine killed about 2 million people. This illustration was taken during the famine as 3 kids sit down, starving, deparateyy waiting for food. This piece relates to my topic because many people starved to death in Vietnam.
This piece is from the Benngal Famine of 1770. The famine lasted from 1769 - 1773. The cause of this however was drought and crop shortages. Farmers were unable to grow their crops and food was too expensive to buy. The famine killed off a third of the population which was about 10 million people. This devastated the people of Bengal. This picture represents the starving people of Bengal. They all look hungry and devasted by the famine. This relates to my topic because of they are starving from the famine.

It was a man-made famine The famine was caused by food requisition actions carried by Soviet authorities, under Joseph Stalin. The genocide killed about 10 million people. The famine lasted from 1845-1849. This was the worst famine to ever happen in the 19th century in Europe. Everybody fled the country, and about 2 million emigrated.
