I have a lot of different cultures in my Ancestry, but the most used and celebrated culture is my German culture. On both my Mom and my Dad's Side they have German backgrounds. In my Family we love to use family cookbooks that are full of different German Traditional Meals.
In my heritage, I come from very poor families. One of the most important ways for my Ancestor's food gathering was Farming and Gardening. I come from a long line of hard workers that put a lot of effort in providing food for their families through Farming and Agriculture.
For Dessert I would have some of my Grandfather's Chocolate Pie, South Mountain Creamery's Triple Chocolate Ice Cream, and Some of my Uncle John's Famous Family Fudge. My Family is known for having a Sweet Tooth.
First, I my Drink would be a South Mountain Creamery Milkshake. Next I would Have the Appetizer of My Grandmothers Mac and Cheese. And My Main Course is A Few Large Cold Fired Cheese, Sausage, Pepperoni, or Meatball Pizzas.
On New Years Day My Family and I have a Lunch Get Together. Some things that we eat that are cultural are Pork and Sauerkraut. My Grandfather butchers and because of that gets, cooks, and cuts the meat that we eat.
On Birthdays me and my family make birthday cakes for one another. Did you Know..... Birthday cakes were created by the Germans. In the Middle Ages the Germans would make cakes for Young Children and this was called Kinderfest.
Sauerkraut consist of Shredded Green Cabbage, Salt, Some Spices, and Water; This is all contained in a Jar for awhile and can be cooked. I have never had sauerkraut because of it's awful smell. But from what I have heard it has a Sweet and Salty taste to it, but I very bitter smell.
German Potato consist of Sliced Potato, Bacon, White Vinegar, Mustard, Onion, and Salt &Sugar. The White Vinegar and Mustard adds a Bitter Taste to the side dish. Along with the Bacon and Salt add a more down to Earth Salty Taste. And the Onion and Sugar add a nice sweet taste to the plain tasting, nice texture of the sliced Potato. The German Potato Salad is a Bitter Tasting Side Dish.
My great grandma always was a very hard worker which was pasted down from my other Hardworking Ancestors. My great grandma was raised on a farm in Luray, VA and was one of the first in her family to get a high school education. As is got into Adulthood she worked at a Bank in Baltimore. After a hard day of work she would come home and cook a meal for her family. After dinner she and my great grandfather both garden and would my jarred pickles and other jarred items for the family to eat on. She was a very hard worker and she loved to cook and bake.
My Grandfather always is showing me family cookbooks and recipes past down from Generation to Generation. He love to cook and bake and is very good at it. His most used cultural food type is German food because of our ancestry.
