Nelson Mandela became the first black president of South Africa in 1994, serving until 1999. He also shared the views of Mohandas Gandhi. Nelson Mandela believed in using non-violence. Though realized he needed physical defense. He later changed his mind while incarcerated, and went back to ways of nonviolence.
Martin Luther King Jr was greatly influenced by the views and methods of Gandhi. He demonstrated civil disobedience and non-violence and encourage others to do it too. For example, he showed this in his "I Have a Dream" speech and during this time, lots of non-violent protests were held too.
Mohandas Gandhi was famous Indian man for his methods of non-violent protesting and civil disobedience against the English. He also organized the Salt March which ultimately helped India gain its independence from England. He fought for what he thought was right.
