Nelson Mandela believes that peace is the only viable way gain equality. He also, like Gandhi thought that jail time was a time of peace, and demonstrations of peace. Also believed that peaceful marches were vital in their fight for equality. Finally, like Gandhi he also believed that breaking the law was sometimes viable for the sake of the bigger picture/idea.
Gandhi was a man born in India in 1869, he became a lawyer at the age of 23 and set of for South Africa. He fought in the South African civil war as a medic. Not long after he set off back to India to remove the British from India peacefully. He lead peaceful protests, and broke certain laws considered unfair. Gandhi believed that civil disobedience was the best way to remove the British from India.
Martin Luther King Jr also believed that civil disobedience was the best way to stop racism. He made similar peaceful marches, and was arrested multiple times like Gandhi for a purpose, for and idea that they would turn dungeons of misery into jails of freedom. He believed that peace was the only answer, and that violence only led to more violence.
