This article shares two different pinion for fracking, a good and a bad. The good is that they believe fracking is bringing up millions to billions of dollars of natural gas that's becoming more abundant as a fuel source. The bad side is that during fracking "Up to 600 chemicals are used in fracking fluid, including known carcinogens and toxins such as Lead, Uranium, Radium, Methanol, Formaldehyde, Hydrochloric Acid, Mercury, and Ethylene Glycerol."(Benefits and Dangers of Fracking- Conserve Energy Future)
Bill Nye (The Science Guy) is asked a question about fracking worldwide and why people still use it if they know it's bad. Bill explains the consequences of drilling so deep and what happens to the ground when you do so. He also goes on to talk about the chemicals and the resources needed to create a drill for fracking. His opinion is that it is a bad act for people effected but also beneficial because of the precious gas being extracted at a fast rate from the shale layers and how we can use that gas for good.
Tim Winton, an Australian man, who is against fracking is speaking his arguments. He believes that it is an awful thing because fracking can ruin farm land, neighborhoods, and full communities by destroying the water supply and the food supply in an area. He also believes that it is bad for community relationships because the people who are against fracking are going to attack those who are for it even if they are not the ones directly involved.
Judy Stone, a Forbes writer, is strongly against fracking for multiple health and well being issues. She states that you can get multiple respiratory problems such as cough, shortness of breath, wheezing, and pregnancy defects. She also argues that your mental heath can be affected by the noise and stress involved with the drilling process. She even makes the argument that spills and accidents have very negative effects on a community.
Drillinginfo.com believes fracking can actually be beneficial for American lives in many various ways. One such way is pricing and economy, the price of fracking is 20% less than other tradition methods of mining while allowing a much higher production rate. Also fracking creates many new jobs for Americans who need a fair paying job that is in an expensive and expanding industry.
Joe Hoffman believes that fracking is bad because of the many environmental, heath, physical , and mental issues that will spring up later. One main problems the possibility of a blowout, or an explosion. These can be very large and cause widespread damage to towns, landscape and communities. Another main problem is the water. Chemicals are mixed into water and then injected into the shale, recovered and poorly treated then pumped back into the ground water where wells and pipes may be for local communities.
Amy Mcsweeny does not know exactly what effects fracking has on the globe but in her article, Professor Hanoch believes it is bad because of the potential heath and mental issues that can soon follow a drilling. Countries like Germany have banned fracking because of the potential heath hazards.
BBC and drilling companies believe with fracking, millions of square feet of natural gas can be recovered from the Earth's shale layers. But the methods of how fracking is completed as a process have become controversial to Americans. Drilling into the Earth's shale will be a long and expensive process but the payoff of millions to billions of dollars made by pumping out the gas may be to hard to pass up on.
