In this Ted Talk by James Hansen, a scientist and protester for climate, he discusses the different beliefs encountered through his years on climate change and discusses his findings on climate change. He is a believer in climate change and has many facts to prove it. One of these facts is that since the start of the 20th century average temperatures have increased .5 degrees Celsius. He then goes on to talk about how since his first work published in 1981, when hardly anyone believed the planet was warming, more and people have began to believe it is existing. This video relates to how climate change has evolved over time through a social lens because not only does Mr. Hansen talk about his finding as a scientist and why his findings prove that climate change is a real thing. He also discusses how his fellow scientists and just common people have become more open to the idea of climate change and how it could ruin the human race. This change in ideas has occurred over time as described by him. So this is how this video relates to the idea of how climate change evolved over time through a social lens.
This video shows how climate change has evolved over time socially because although this video only focuses on one part of history it shows what happens when the climate changes. This climate change was not caused by human interference, but it still shows what will happen if the climate changes. The Little Ice Age was a time period in the Seventeenth Century where everything became colder. This global cooling was said to be caused by an unbalance in the planet with many volcanoes erupting this century. The cooling caused much social disorder among the people because they did not know how to withstand the cold. The poor often died because of lack of food or freezing to death and the rich would often tax the common people more to survive the winter. Who would have thought that just a change in the weather would cause so much social disorder among the people? And considering this event happened 4 centuries ago it is reasonable to believe it will happen again soon, but this time humans will be one of the main causes of this climate change. This video demonstrates how easily social orders can change as a result of climate change.
Earth Song like many of Michael Jackson's songs points out many of the wrongs we as people have committed and the music video explains even more. This song relates to how climate change has evolved over time through a social lens because the whole video shows the world as it was before man then as it was after man destroyed it. The music video does a good job at showing people what we have done to our planet and showing multiple ways we have affected it. It shows how in Africa hunters are over hunting the elephants and rhinos for there ivory, it shows lumberjacks cutting down the trees of the rain forest, and it shows the common people trying to survive after a war. And all of these events create the world that Michael Jackson is singing in throughout the video with the whole world on fire. The video also helped people socially because it was one of the first times that a musician created a song with such an in depth meaning about protecting the earth and since he was famous millions of people saw the video and had a new respect for the environment. However, not only did the video help the people who saw it, but the lyrics of the song had a major impact as well. In the lyrics Michael Jackson is questioning everything about the planet with lines like "what about the forest trails" and "what about the elephants" by questioning everything he brings up great points to the people who listen to it and would hopefully give them initiative to do something about it. So this video not only explains what will happen if we continue to affect the climate, but it also rose awareness in society about saving the planet and protecting the climate.
