The sculpture was created during the second half of the 12th century, and the sculpture is chiefly architectural and decorative. In the article, in the, "Importance of English Gothic Sculpture" section, it says that "These artistic tendencies, which arose in a royal setting, show that the importance of 13th-century English sculpture has too often been underestimated in favour of illumination."
