This case lasted for 18 years. There were three Federal department working together to find a clue to catch the unabomber. The unabomber made his own bomb with his initial FC (freedom club). They even had a toll free number if anyone see's anything suspicious. After 18 years they were able to catch him by a manifesto that matched to the one from when the case started (1978). They were able to find where him could be because of a letter he posted to Washington DC. When examined the letter they found other details which helped them narrow down where to look and who to look for.
A student from the University of York helped identify a 13th century scribe. They called it Tremulous Hand of Worcester, but they still did not knew what type of tremor did the writer had. Later the studies suggested the medieval writer was probably a monk at Worcester Cathedral Priory. Studies also suggests that he suffered from essential tremor (uncontrollable shake). This is the first case in which neurological and historical perspective. They are unable to say how old the writer was and whether he was right or left handed. This studies still remain unsolved completely.
Evidence for examination can also be a distorted evidence. After the evidence are collected, the Known and unknown samples are divided into two types requested writing specimens and collected writing sentiments. To analysis the documents the person have to have full time training and have to keep their skills current. The emanation is done in a privet or government laboratory, which has all the specialize equipment needed. Typewritten and machine-printed document can also have specific detail to help the case. The object written with can also be useful. Type of test that can be done to an document: Electrostatic Detection Apparatus (ESDA test), photography, and chromatography.
Forensic graphology is the study of handwriting and is used to identity a persons state of mind at the time of writing. Graphologist look for mood, motivation, integrity, intelligence, and emotional stability. The words you write speaks your mind, which is different for everyone. handwriting can not tell whether the person who wrote is a boy or a girl. Graphologist use Electrostatic Development of Indented Writing Impression (ESDA test). This test shows evidence that naked eye can not see. This test can determine if the document has be written on top of other document or if the paper has any finger print on it.
No one can have same handwriting not even the same person can replicate his/her own handwriting. Everyone has different habits, characteristics, and individualists in there writing. first Graphologist analyze the known and unknown sample. Then use comparison to see spelling, grammar, punctuation, and phraseology. Lastly they see for similarities between unknown and known sample.
