Gun control is necessary in keeping our country safe. There is also a clear difference between the right to own a gun and what type of guns you can have. For example, people have the right to have maybe a handgun to protect themselves, but there is no need to have fully automatic weapons such as a rifle. Since they are not necessary in self protection.
We as Americans need to continue to work towards a safe environment. Since 1994, when the Assualt Weapons Ban was passed the U.S. has not made a strong enough attempt to protect citizens. Since no laws have been passed to restrict gun distribution and sales. And no laws have helped in keeping guns out of potentially dangerous hands. Since many of our background checks have been proven unaffective and have not been changed or improved in a long time. That is why the U.S. should work to keep reformations and improvements to our constitution coming. To keep all of our lives safer.
The United States no longer needs these old laws. The second amendment which was created over two centuries, is now pretty much obsolete. This law was created for the reasons of hunting for food, lack of police, and the lack of military. These reasons no longer apply , since many people do not hunt for food, and the increase presence of police and public safety. This leaves close to no reasons to even own a gun, since all of these uses for guns are rarely needed today. Also, the high powered guns of today are too dangerous for civilian usage.
Americans no longer have a true need for guns. Since, many do not need guns to survive everyday life. Since 1999, people in the U.S. have seen an increase of the purchase of guns for only protection about 22%. This shows that that people no longer have a need for guns in everyday life. That they now have them for more of protection against potential threats. Which could always fall into the wrong hands and lead to deaths.
The United States is not regulating who has access to guns. Under federal law any convicted felon, someone who has previously unlawfully used a certain substance, has a felony for more than one year, and many more criminal offences. Certain states with gun control criteria in place had 0% success in flagging people using fake IDs which was found by a study conducted by the Government Accountability Office. This is a huge problem, since this is putting dangerous fire arms in anybody's hands. Which could lead some of the worst gun violence we have ever seen.
