While progressives should continue to protest for gun control, they should also stop and listen to gun owners who are genuinely trying to further the conversation. This gun owner from Seattle is an avid outdoorsman and gun owner. He is an owner of many guns including some assault rifles. He agrees that there needs to be a change in the law and that the age limit needs to be higher. He has also talked to other members of the NRA who also agree with him and want the law to be changed. Some one needs to take charge with power and make a change to the law.
Following the deadly school shooting in Parkland, Florida, Sen. Bill Nelson (Florida) said this could be the "turning point" in the effort to restrict assault weapons. There have been too many school shootings in the past couple years that something needs to be done. There needs to be a restrictions on AR rifles because people who are not even allowed to buy alcohol are allowed to buy an AR rifle. "If now is not the time to talk about gun violence, when is the time? How many more folks have to die?" Somebody needs to take charge and make a change about these guns. Bill Nelson talks about he himself is an avid hunting and he explains that ARs are not for hunting, they are for killing.
During a listening session with school shooting victims' families and friends, President Trump agreed with a participant's contention that faculty should be properly trained and armed if they choose. Trump agreed with one student in that if teachers want to be trained and then eventually armed in it would make school a lot safer. Of course the teachers would have to go through much trainer to be certified to carry but Trump thinks it would scare off some thinking about attacking. "If these cowards knew that the school was well guarded ... I think they wouldn't go into the school to start off with," Trump said.
Last week, Nikolas Cruz went into Stoneman Douglas Highschool and murdered 14 students and 3 teachers. He had a AR-15 rifle, pistol, a vest, and many loaded clips on him. He arrived on the campus and started shooting as soon as he entered the hallways. Some of the students got parts of the shooting on video. The shooter killed and injured many people. After he was done shooting he dropped his guns and vest and blended into the rest of the students. He was later found and arrested. This school shooting has brought up the topic of gun control again and this time much stronger. Many people and students are starting to speak up and saying that something has to change.
