Homelessness has been a growing problem for many years. The controversy between whether or not to help these people is always in the air. Many people don't take into consideration the multiple causes of homelessness. They are narrow minded and think of the preconceived reasons like substance abuse, prostitution and criminal records which all are valid but there’s another side to every story. Many homeless people and families are put out on the streets when a parent loses their job and is given no financial support. Many of these people try to find work but are not given the job due to their appearance.
The workers are dedicated to help these lives. They are a non-profit organization who truly get to know the person. VOA takes the time to learn people's stories so they receive the help needed for them. The employees connect and stay with them through their journey. One mistake should not define a person but learn from it. Many of the homeless people that have been helped ended up finishing college, working, reuniting with their families and the sweetest helping others in the position they once were in.
The United States has multiple programs trying to solve this problem. The current solutions are not as effective. A person and family can reach out to access what they need in order to get back on their feet. These programs want people to work hard and become stable due to their own hard work. The problem comes in when these people want help handed to them. Also, people do not take into account the reasons causing homelessness. Not every homeless person was a drug addict or has had a bad past. Some simply lose their jobs and can't get out of the black hole of unemployment. Many young adults are kicked out and have no family to reach out to. The government has many housing options but they aren't reaching out and telling the people who need it. Actions speak louder than words.
Homelessness has multiple official definitions. A person is known to be homeless if they do not have a proper place to eat and sleep each day. They are seen on the streets and other public places not meant for daily life. These people do not have jobs or permanent housing. Homeless people bounce from shelter to shelter and lack basic human necessities We often forget that they are human. They cannot control many circumstances like domestic violence, child abuse, natural disasters and catastrophes. The negative connotation of the homeless needs to be changed.
