There are four different types of eclipses . First off is a total eclipse then there's the annular eclipse , solar & partial eclipse. Plus just to add a partial solar eclipse occurs when only part of the sun is covered by the moon which appears to take a "bite" out of the sun.
A total solar eclipse is visible from somewhere on Earth about every 18 months. But many of these events can be seen only from distant locales where travel is grueling.
Solar eclipses occur about every 18 years. Why might they happen you ask ? They happens so the moons orbit can cross Earth's ecliptic plane.
