In this article, the differences in why men and women cheat are the complete opposite. The number one reason why men cheat is because the person they cheated with is attractive. Men also cheat because they aren't having enough sex, people were hitting on them, and the person they cheated with was there for them. Overall men are focused on the physical attractions which leads them to cheat. This relates to The Great Gatsby because Tom only cheated to fulfill his physical desires. Myrtle, the woman he is cheating with is described as "thick" which Daisy is not. "Then I heard footsteps on the stairs, and in a moment the thickish figure of a woman blocked out the light from the office door" (25). Even though Daisy gives him everything he desires, he still goes off to be with a thicker woman. In relation to why women cheat, it is because they are attracted to someone who gives them the attention they are not receiving from their real partner. Emotional support is the top factor to this cause. When Gatsby and Daisy had their reunion after 5 years they talked for a long time, catching up on things they missed out on in each others lives. "They were sitting at either end of the couch, looking at each other as if some question had been asked, or was in the air, and every vestige of embarrassment was gone" (89). This shows how Daisy is so attracted to Gatsby because he gives her the time of day when Tom doesn't. This relates to the theme of how infidelity negatively impacts a person's life because Gatsby is in love with a careless woman and he is clueless to the fact that Daisy would just leave him like that. Because she decided to get closer with Gatsby, it is taking advantage of him and making his life completely revolve around her, and in the end this gets him killed.
According to this article from truthaboutdeception.com, Infidelity is very common in the real world. It is proven that many people find a more suitable partner only after they marry. In The Great Gatsby, this was the case. Daisy gave up on Gatsby and then married Tom. When Gatsby returned 5 years later to be with her, she instantly fell back in love. This happens in the real world all the time, which leads to the act of cheating. Because of this Tom developed a hatred for Gatsby and made his life hell. The green light on Daisy's dock that fades towards the end of the story when Gatsby was showing Daisy, represents how Gatsby's desires would be if their relationships continued. If Daisy left Tom for Gatsby it is true that they would both slowly lose feelings. This would lead to Daisy not having Tom or Gatsby and Gatsby throwing his whole life away for nothing.
This poem expresses the pain one feels when they are cheated on. Mentally, the feeling of loneliness and being lost is what is to come after all harm is done. All Gatsby did was love Daisy and that was his biggest flaw. Yes, both Tom and Daisy cheated on each other with different people, and that caused many problems. In the end, Daisy still proceeded to return back to Tom without hesitation. That shows how much you cant trust someone even when your heart loves them endlessly. It also shows how careless and disrespectful Daisy truly is. Even though Nick tried contacting Daisy after she disappeared, Nick lost all respect for her. Because of her cheating, and then leaving the person she cared about most, he thought of her as a completely different person and this ruined their relationship forever.
The song called Somebody Else by The 1975, is a song about cheating. The song says, " I'm looking through you while you're looking through your phone, and then leaving with somebody else, no I don't want your body, but I'm picturing your body with somebody else." This song relates to what I would believe George Wilson would think. He is a kind man, and even if he doesn't want money he wants Myrtle. Since Myrtle wants money she only goes off with Tom because of that. This impacts Nick because when Nick gets sucked into the situation and is forced to go see her with Tom, he has to keep it from George. This causes Nick to think of Tom differently and that was a key factor in why they do not associate anymore.
This piece of artwork describes the true pain a person can feel when they find out that their partner has been cheating. This experience can leave a large amount of mental damage on a person who has dealt with it first hand. George Wilson found out that Myrtle was having an affair, and thought that it was Gatsby that she was having one with. For him coming to a realization that he has lost her forever, and figuring out that she was cheating was so heartbreaking for him. He had so much mental pain that he just didn't know how to contain it.
According to independent.co, when a person cheats on their partner, it can lead to their partner experiencing mental health consequences and can increase the activity of risky behavior. In addition, the partner experiences emotion distress. In comparison to The Great Gatsby, Daisy was cheated on by Tom. When she discovered this, and also realized that Gatsby was back in town, she decided to go off with him to different places when she was still married. This was her engaging in risky behavior. She didn't care what would happen to her marriage since Tom had already been going off with another woman. In comparison with the book and the topic that cheating can cause negative impacts on everyone, it is true that Gatsby's life was ruined after Tom found out Daisy had feelings for Gatsby. Tom was the man who told George what kind of car killed Myrtle because he knew that it would trace back to Gatsby. "The yellow car I was driving this afternoon wasn't mine--do you hear?" (140). George's anger and dedication into figuring out who killed Myrtle overpowered his sense of self. He figured out it was Gatsby's car and killed him including himself.
