Finances are the leading cause of stress in a relationship, according to a survey of people in a relationship or partnership released Wednesday by Sun Trust Bank. Some 35 percent of all respondents experiencing relationship stress said money was the primary cause of friction. (Annoying habits came in second, at 25 percent.) Among respondents with relationship stress aged 44 to 54, 44 percent said money was the primary cause.
Having counseled and represented thousands of people in their divorces, it is very clear to me that quite often, marriages fail because of an innate inab...For many couples, it seems to come down to whether they choose to be right or choose to be happy. Couples that choose to be right (mostly subconsciously) face a marriage filled with criticism, finger pointing and a general need to defend their ego. Couples that choose to be happy have less egoist interaction and are more accepting and tolerant of each other’s differences in opinions or behavior. There is an agreement that the bond between them is greater than their differences.
Current research indicates that both men and women are equally likely to cheat on their partner, a statistic that used to favor men in the past.Cheating can leave both partners feeling confused, angry and grief stricken within a marriage. Divorce rates tend to be quite high after an affair has taken place with studies indicating about half ending in divorce with many partners noting a feeling of betrayal.
