A) On December 17, 1903, Orville and Wilbur Wright were the first people to successfully make and fly the first aircraft. This changed modern transportation forever. B/C) Flight is thrilling. It can make you feel as if you are a bird. When going on long trips with family, flying is the best option for everyone. This is because it does not take as much time as driving. Flying is great for little ones. They get less antsy on the short plane ride. if the Wright Brothers had not made up their wonderful invention, I would have to drive all across the USA and take boats over seas. Without airplanes, we would not be able to get to places with speed.
A) In 1916, the first self-serving grocery store called the “Piggly Wiggly”was in Memphis Tennessee. A man named Clarence Saunders had the first idea for a self-service grocery store. Before the first Piggly Wiggly, you had to go up to a counter and ask a clerk to put together your order of food for you. They measured and weighed out all of your goods that you wanted to purchase. The idea of self service grocery store reduced times that were spent waiting for people to put together your goods B/C )Our family and many others goes to the grocery store about once or twice a week to pick up things that we need. We usually try to spend the least amount of time in the store to avoid excessive purchasing. For us, it might have been difficult if we had to wait for people to measure out our food. Because of the reduced times that we spend at the grocery store, we purchased less which means we save more money.
A)The Ford Model T or the "Tin Lizzie” was first produced In 1908 by Henry Ford.The Model T offer practical and affordable transportation . The car became known for its durability and quality. From 1913 to 1925 the Model T was produced in only black. In 1908 price of a Ford Model T $805. Because of the assembly line, the price was lowered to $300 in 1925. This means during a period of 17 years, the price of a Ford Model T dropped $505. B)After taking a trip to the Henry Ford Museum late last year, I became more interested in the history of the Ford Model T. C) These technological advances made by Henry Ford has impacted Transportation today. In today's society, almost every person has some sort of car that they use for transportation.
A) During the 1930's, the Southern Plains were stricken with a drought that caused a very large amount of damage and devastation. Because the Plains had very rich soil, many farmers plowed and turned the earth. Because of this, the plains had a very small amount of grass to hold the loose soil in place. As a result , high winds carried large clouds of dust all over the plains making it hard for people to breathe and see. Many people migrated from the great plains to avoid the dust and to find jobs and better living conditions. These migrants were known as "Okies". B) I found this topic interesting because I wanted to know more about the hardships people faced and how they overcame said hardships. C) the Migrants ( Okie's) influenced Writer John Steinbeck in his novel, " The Grapes of Wrath" in 1939.
A)In 1947, Jackie Robinson made history. He was the first African American man to play on a Major League baseball team. He played for the Brooklyn Dodgers. In his first season, he won the Rookie of the Year award and helped get his team to the National League Championship. Despite the amount of talent that Robinson had, he still faced backlash because of his race. However, Robinson handle the harassment with poise and fearlessness. C)Thus, inspiring others to become opponents of racial discrimination.B) I became interested in Jackie Robinson after seeing a documentary on his life story. Also considering that February is Black History Month, I felt that it was important to wright about a inspirational African American during the mid 1900’s.
A) Before July 6, 1928, people bought whole loaves of bread and sliced them themselves. on July 6, 1928, Otto Rohwedder produced the first mechanical bread slicing machine. With commercially available bread becoming softer and softer, it became harder to cut at home with a regular bread knife. It did not take very long for the mechanically sliced bread to become a phenomenon around the US. By 1930, you could buy the bread in many towns all over the country. B/C) Now, many people including myself are fond of the sliced bread that is available in supermarkets. the individual slices are great for making a yummy grilled cheese sandwich or delicious french toast in the mornings. Personally, the pre-sliced bread is helpful in the morning when I want some toast or making a sandwich for lunch.
A) The Mickey Mouse cartoon was first introduced in 1927 by the beloved Walt Disney. This cartoon was the first of its kind with detailed cartoon pictures and its clear sound. America was head over heels for the tiny mouse character. B) After watching this cartoon, I became thoroughly interested in the cartoon making process and Walt Disney. C) In present times, many children and even maybe some adults enjoy watching Mickey and all of his friends. Children may find the cartoon to be comforting. it also makes their growing brains work to answer questions while watching the cartoon.
A)In 1943, mechanical engineer Richard James made a mistake that would later become the popular toy called a slinky. James was making Springs that could keep s equipment that was used at sea steady. After knocking some samples of the spring off of a shelf, he was amazed to see see that the spring didn't just fall it "walked” down. With his wife Betty, James developed the idea for the toy. B)This one toy is a great present my brother and I receive during Christmas every year. We enjoy watching them walk down the stairs despite the loud noise.C)The toy has ended up in movies like Toy Story as the slinky dog Slink.
A) America got their first taste of the Oreo cookie in 1912. As many as 362 billion have been sold. This delicious chocolaty sandwich cookie is popular among people of all ages! B) In my life, this cookie has become a beloved after school snack that is enjoyed with a cold glass of milk. C) Today, many people of all ages love the taste of the delectable sandwich cookie. :)
A) America was first introduced to the sweet, rubbery confection that we know today as bubble gum in 1928. The confection is proven to relieve stress, improve dental health, and improve cognitive function. B/C) This topic was interesting to me. This is because bubble gum is something that a fair amount of people can purchase with a bit more that one dollar. It is interesting to see that gum did not have the same availability as it does today.
