In the book A Separate Peace, after Finny passes away Gene can't cry because he feels as if he was the one who died. Gene whole life changes, he feels as if he is living through Finny and or that Finny’s actions are now a part of his life. Obviously this is hard for anyone to lose their best friend but when Gene would go back to Devon he would see the tree and the staircase and know that those places were where his best friend was killed.
"It takes pain to change" has an impact on my life, my brother was 4'7 going into his 9th grade year. He was bullied about his size almost every day, so that was a lot of stress and pain for him and the rest of the family. There was only so much we could do to help him. As a guy in high school being bullied is hard, there was definitely a lot of pain he had to go through. Over his high school years, he has grown to be 5'10 and is no longer bullied.
In the movie The Shack, Mack, the main character, loses one of his daughters after she is abducted. He goes through a spiritual journey to forgive and change into a better person who is no longer is the judge and knows God better.
In the book The Circle Mae receives a letter from Mercer, her ex-boyfriend. In this letter Mercer tells her that he doesn't want anything to do with all this technology and doesn't want anything else to do with her either. Mae is forced to change because Mercer is out of her life. It is defiantly hard to know that someone you once loved is now gone. Without Mercer in her life she has to adjust and end ups wanting to find him and ends up killing him.
"It takes pain to change" is a theme that I can really relate too and has had an impact on my life. I tore my PCL and needed to get it reconstructed. This injury was definitely mentally and physically painful. My whole life changed within minutes. This injury has changed me in the fact that I have to look at life in a different way.
In The Choice, the main character was faced with the choice whether or not to take his wife, who was in a coma from a car accident, off of life support. But because he wasn’t ready to let her go, he couldn’t do that, he couldn’t pull the plug. The odds were against her waking up. That didn’t stop him from visiting with her everyday and continuing to love her. This one day he got the call. His life had changed for the good.
In the movie The Pursuit of Happyness, Will Smith goes through a journey of a San Francisco salesman struggling to build a future for himself and his son. He is left to raise his son alone, they are forces out of their apartment and has to live on the street. Will Smiths self-confidence and love for his son, he rises above to become a Wall Street Legend. Will Smith struggled and went through a lot of pain so that he could change into the better.
In the movie Hoovey, the main character was one of his high school’s top basketball players. He was diagnosed with a brain tumor the size of an orange, with a tumor comes a lot of pain. He had to recover, and after he was a different person and relied that it takes time to become better. Hoovey had to change and adapt to his circumstances
Based on the movie The Lorax, I believe that it relates to the theme "It takes pain to change." In the movie when all the trees are cut down it ruined the everything, it was in the dumps. The Lorax had to go through all this pain because the onceler took all the trees away till the boy wanted to change everything around by planting the Truffula trees. Then after the boy decided to change all the animals would start to come back.
In the book of Proverbs, it talks about that punishment for wickedness needs to be harsh or painful enough to make a difference in behavior. To make a difference in someone they must have enough pain so that they will change.
